Liverpool VS Bolton, 24 January 2015 〜 ≪ http://scousehouse.net/magazine/nlw_photo604.html ≫ 【 Introduction：はじめに 】 遅くなりましたが、新年明けましておめでとうございます。 この「Footballの旅」は、気がつけば２年近くも随分ご無沙汰でしたが、スカ ウスハウス・ウェブサイトの「Footballの旅」ページもKazさんががんばって アップデート（ http://scousehouse.net/football/eri_01.htm ）してください ましたし、まずはミニ版から、徐々に復活するつもりですので、引き続き宜しく お願いします。 【 Before The Match：試合の前に 】 Steven Gerrardのアメリカ移籍のことは、年末年始の里帰りの際に知った。リ バプールの熱狂的ファンではなくとも、FootballファンでしかもLiverpoolに 住む者であるならば、やはり寂しいニュースである。 早かれ遅かれ何らかの形でLiverpoolを去ることは皆予想してたものの、長年 チームを引っ張りワールドクラスのプレーヤーとして名を残した地元出身の彼が クラブから抜けることは、やはりスカウサーフットボールファンとしてはとて つもなく残念なことであろう。 Liverpoolに戻ると、結構沢山の日本人Liverpoolファンから、彼の最後のプ レーを観るためにAnfield入りする予定だとのメッセージを受け取った。私は 一人ひとりの友人の顔を思い浮かべながら、同時にGerrard の存在の大きさを つくづく感じさせられた。 先シーズンは予想外のリーグ２位、Luis Suarezの事件や彼の移籍、そして Mario Balotelli, Fabio Borini, Rickie LambertなどのFWとMFの補充とシー ズン前から慌ただしく再スタートしたLiverpoolであるが、Daniel Sturridgeの 怪我と長期離脱があり、Balotelliをはじめとする期待のFW陣も今一つ噛み合わ ず、なかなか思うようにポイントを延ばすことができなかった。 しかしながらLiverpoolは、昨年暮れのMan U戦で3-4-2-1システムを導入して 以来、９戦負けなしと調子を取り戻し、現時点でリーグテーブルでは35ポイン トの８位につけている。 一方のBolton Wanderersは、昨年10月にDougie Freedmanに代わってNeil Lennonが監督に就任。最下位からの巻き返しを開始し、それまで１勝２分８敗と 低迷していたチームは、以後15試合を８勝４分３敗と復活。現在チャンピオン シップ（２部リーグ）での順位は15位（24チーム中）まで上昇した。 【 Anfield：本日の見所】 本日の見どころの一つは、2000年から４シーズン、Liverpoolの前線をMichael Owenとのコンビで走ったEmile HeskeyのAnfieldリターンだ。 今年１月で37歳を迎えた彼だが、嬉しいことにいまだ現役である。プレミア リーグでのプレイはAston Villaでの2011-12シーズンが最後だが、オーストラ リアで２シーズン過ごした後、昨年12月にボルトンと契約、イングランドに 戻って来た。 昔からの大柄の体格も変わることない。それどころか、それにますます拍車がか かったようなHeskey。およそ３年ぶりとなった彼の帰還を、Anfieldのファンは 温かな拍手で迎えた。リバプールでもイングランド代表でも共にプレイした Gerrardは残念ながら本日は欠場。Capital One Cupの準決勝戦、チェルシーと の試合に備えての監督配慮によるものだ。今日のキャプテンはJordan Henderson が務める。 【 Kick Off：キック・オフ 】 試合は定時17:30にキックオフ。本日のアウェイサイドの応援団はびっしり埋ま り、応援歌もホームの声援を掻き消すかのごとくAnfieldに響き渡る。負けてな い！ 前半Boltonは前線FW Eidur GudjohnsenとFW Heskeyを使って積極的に攻める。 対するホームサイドLiverpoolも若い強力なミッドフィルダーとディフェンスラ インで巧みにオフサイドトラップを仕掛け、Boltonサイドのボックス内への侵入 を防ぎ続ける。 12分過ぎにはGerrard に代わってキャプテンの重責を担うMF Hendersonの左足 弾丸ボレーがGK Adam Bogdanの両手で遮られる。それからもLiverpoolはFW Philippe Coutinhoと FW Raheem Sterlingの見事なパス交換からBoltonサイド を揺さぶるが、ファイナルボールが中々上手く入らない。 前半Boltonの最大のチャンスは、中央ライン右側からのフリーキックから始 まった。MF Liam Feeneyが蹴ってボックス内に入ったボールを、DF Matthew Millsが落とし、ボックス外中央で待ち構えるMF Dean Moxeyにパス。Moxeyの ゴール左隅を狙った強烈なシュートは、わずかに外に逸れた。Bolton応援団が 一斉に立ち上がった。 後半に入って、Liverpoolの攻めが続く中、50分にサブで入ったFW Lazar Markovicがドリブルで突破しかけた際、BoltonのMillsと接触してボックス内 に転倒する。Anfieldにどよめきが広がるが、主審はカードどころかファールも 取らない。 その後も54分Sterlingの突破、58分Coutinho、MF Javi Manquilloのシュート と、いずれもLiverpoolの決定的チャンスが続き、Boltonに揺さぶりをかけるが、 ゴールネットを揺らすことができない。 63分にはBoltonが反撃を見せ、ペナルティーボックス外左よりFW Joshua Vela がボックス内中央のMoxeyにボールを預けてゴール前へ。そしてMoxeyから戻っ て来たボールをゴール正面のGudjohnsenにラストパス。しかしGudjohnsenの鋭 い弾丸ショットはゴールの頭上を大きく逸れた。 後半67分にはロジャーズ監督が積極的な采配を見せて、MF LucasとFW Fabio Boriniを連続でピッチに入れる。その直後の69分、カウンターアタックでゴー ル正面に攻め上がったCoutinhoがディフェンダーを引きつけ、左に開いた Boriniにスマートなリバースパス。Boriniは右足で狙いすました素晴らしい シュートを放つ。が、またもやGKのBogdanは全身ストレッチでボールを跳ね返 し、ゴールを死守した。 【 Ending：試合終了 】 このままフルタイム、スコアレス・ドローという結果となった。 何といっても今日のMan of the Matchは、Bolton GKのBogdanだろう。 Liverpoolの連続攻撃を防ぎに防ぎ、ゴールを全身で守り切った。Liverpoolの 攻撃も完璧ではなかったかもしれないが、Boltonのチームプレイと良くオーガナ イズされた守りが今日の結果に繋がったのだろう。 さて、FAカップの４回戦のこの対決は、再試合で決着をつけることとなった。 次回はBoltonのMacron Stadiumで行われる。今日のニュースでSturridgeがリ ハビリから出て、練習場に姿を現したとあった。もしかしたら、次回は SturridgeかBalotelliの姿が見られるかもしれない。 （Fin） ≪マッチ・データ≫ FA Cup 4th Round LIVERPOOL 0 - FA Cup 4th Round Anfield, January 24th 2015 Attendance: 43,847 The FA Cup (the Football Association Challenge Cup, to give it its full official name) is the oldest cup competition in the world, first played in 1872, fifteen years before the start of the Football League. For many generations of English football fans the Cup has been the highlight of the season, particularly during the 20th century when finals began to be played at Wembley as the climax of the whole season. Words such as 'magic', 'legend' and 'fairy tale' are often associated with it. Though it remains an important trophy to win (it provides the prestige of winning the oldest football competition in the world, total prize money of £3.4 million, entry to the Europa Cup, and playing at Wembley again in the Community Shield against the League champions in the first game of the following season), it cannot be said that today it has the same appeal as previously, particularly with the bigger clubs and their fans. Since the formation of the Premier League (PL) in 1992, with its enormous injection of television money (the current PL-BSkyB TV deal is worth £3 billion over three years) and the increasing ownership of clubs by foreign billionaires, four or five clubs have come dominate English football and their chief interest is winning the Premier League or the European Champions League (ECL) or at least finishing in the top four positions in order to qualify for the ECL. Such qualification alone is worth £6.5M to each team and they also receive £750,000 for each group win. The team that goes on to win the ECL receives in total over £22.5M from UEFA. So the last few generations of football fans, who are now used to seeing Europe's best teams regularly, do not seem to value the FA Cup as highly as previous generations. Even teams at the bottom of the Premier League will sometimes field weakened teams in the FA Cup in order to save their best players for League games, as even the team which finishes BOTTOM of the PL receives £60 million. However, because the FA Cup pairs teams from different divisions together and amateurs against professionals (the competition begins in August and this year 736 clubs entered), there is the possibility of seeing small teams beat big teams and this still holds everyone's interest. * * * In this fourth round meeting Liverpool entertained one of the oldest clubs in the country, Bolton Wanderers, who are currently in the Championship after being relegated from the PL two seasons ago. Formed in 1874 as Christ Church Football Club, they changed their name to Bolton Wanderers in 1877. Ten years later they became one of the original twelve members of the first football league. They have been FA Cup finalists seven times (the first in 1894) and have won it four times, most recently in 1958. They were famously the first team to win it at Wembley. That final is famous because, firstly, it was the first ever FA Cup final at the stadium and secondly, the authorities could not contain the enormous crowd of people who came to see the final at the new 100,000-capacity stadium. Many thousands without tickets pushed in for free or climbed over the walls. The crowd was so big (at least 200,000) that it pressed right up to the pitch. Liverpool have an even stronger FA Cup record, having been finalists fourteen times (the first in 1914) and having won it seven times, most recently in 2006. This year there is an added incentive for Liverpool to win it again as the final will be held on 30th May, which just happens to be Steven Gerrard's 35th birthday. Gerrard recently announced that he will leave Liverpool at the end of this season to join LA Galaxy in America's Major Soccer League, so if Liverpool were to reach the final this year, it would be a 'fairy tale' ending for the club's most highly-regarded player to play his last game for his home-town club at an FA Cup final at Wembley. At the start of play Liverpool and Bolton were 28 league positions apart and this meeting was their ninth in the FA Cup, of which Bolton have won six, the last being at Anfield in 1993 when Liverpool were the then Cup-holders. * * * When Bolton were relegated two years ago they were expected to make a quick return to the PL, but they have struggled and last October sacked their manager and brought in Neil Lennon (43). As a player Lennon won the League Cup with Leicester twice and won many honours in Scotland with Celtic, with whom he played in the 2003 UEFA Cup final, in which Celtic were beaten 3-2 by Jose Mourinho's Porto. He also played 40 times for Northern Ireland. From 2010-14 he was manager at Celtic, again winning many honours and also managing them in the European Champions League, beating Barcelona 2-1 in a group game in 2012. He has been able to stabilise and strengthen Bolton since his arrival; before this match they had lost only two of their previous twelve league games and are currently in 16th position. His team is a mix of youth and experience - he has added former Liverpool player Emile Heskey (with whom he played at Leicester) and former Chelsea and Barcelona player Eidur Gudjohnsen, who together have a combined age of seventy-three. Liverpool entered this game just a few days after a League Cup semi-final with Chelsea and just a few days before the second leg, so manager Brendan Rogers made a number of team changes, most notably resting Gerrard. After a poor start to the season, Liverpool have recovered and have been on a good run in the league, having lost only 3 of their last 12 games and are currently in 8th position. However, they still miss the goals of Suarez, who is now at Barcelona, and Sturridge, who has been injured for most of the season. The Reds' top scorer at the moment is midfielder Gerrard with 9 goals. The FA Cup could be Liverpool's best chance of domestic success this year as they certainly cannot win the title (they will find it difficult to finish in the top four) and are now the underdogs in the second leg of the League Cup semi-final after drawing the home leg 1-1. * * * It was clear from the start that Bolton had come with the plan to contain Liverpool, playing three at the back, packing five in midfield, and having Heskey as the big target man up front with Gudjohnsen playing off him. Liverpool played a 3-4-2-1 formation, with Sterling being the lone front man. Bolton made the brighter start but did not create any dangerous situations and once Liverpool had settled they began to dominate. Enrique got down the left on a number of occasions and delivered good crosses and Johnson, Coutinho and Henderson all tested keeper Bogdan with shots on target. So solid was the Bolton defending, however, that Liverpool were unable to create any clear chances from close-in. Bolton's best chance of the half came from a stinging half-volley from 25 yards by Moxey, which curled just narrowly wide. Liverpool increased the pressure in the second half and the longer the game went on, the more they looked as if they would score. Bogdan showed why he is the Hungarian national keeper by pulling off a string of fine saves, the best from a Coutinho shot from the inside left channel just outside the box, which the keeper finger-tipped away at full stretch. Time and again Liverpool's neat interplay and intelligent forward running created chance after chance but brave blocks and outstanding goalkeeping kept the score at 0-0. Liverpool did create chances inside the box in this half but again Bogdan was on hand to tip a Borini shot around the post and to block Sterling with his legs. The best opening, which was the last chance of the game, fell to Borini (who had substituted the ineffectual Manquillo on 68 minutes) but he put his free header wide from eight yards. There were two incidents which angered the home crowd. After 49 minutes Markovic, who had substituted Enrique at half time, raced through on the left to a wonderful 40-yard cross-field pass from Henderson and was challenged by the last defender, Mills, on the edge of the penalty area. Mills did not appear to make contact with the ball and Markovic crashed to the ground, but no free-kick was given. On 80 minutes Henderson played a neat one-two which got him to within 8 yards of the goal but as the keeper came out to pounce on the ball, former Liverpool player Spearing helped Bogdan by strongly blocking Henderson's run. No penalty was given despite the appeals. Although the statistics show that Liverpool dominated possession (68%) and had far more goal attempts (Liverpool had a total of 24 shots, 9 of which were on target, compared to Bolton's 9 shots and 0 on target), two chances fell to the away side in the second half which could have produced a shock result. After 61 minutes a cross from Bolton's left was met by Gudjohnsen 14 yards out in the centre of goal but his carefully-placed side-footed shot went wide. A shot hit with power would have had a better chance of hitting the target. Then, just a few minutes later, a smart interchange between Moxey and Vela cut through the Liverpool defence and Vela's pull-back from the by-line was deflected up in the air to Gudjohnsen in a good position, but he was unable to get his foot over the ball and his shot went over the bar. * * * Neil Lennon was delighted that his plan of containment had worked and will look forward to trying to cause a significant cup upset by beating Liverpool in the replay at Bolton. Brendan Rogers proclaimed himself to be happy with his team's performance and paid high compliments to Bolton's stout defence, particularly to keeper Bogdan, but he must regret having to play another game.
